On 26 August, at the end of this summer, we will host the third Home Café Day in Ropaži and Salaspils Municipalities. This year, 13 home cafés and their owners will represent their Municipalties – five in Salaspils and eight in Ropaži.

We would like to thank all the private farm and business owners for supporting and participating in this delicious and very enjoyable project!

We would like to remind you that the project Home Café Days is organised with the support and initiative of the Ropaži – Salaspils Partnership, Salaspils Municipality, Ropaži Municipality, as well as LIAA Tourism Department and Lauku Ceļotājs.

A brief introduction to the “Taste Latvia!” project. This year, the Home Café Days will take place from 14 July to 17 September throughout Latvia.

During these days, farms, entrepreneurs and local community enthusiasts will open their doors to guests, transforming themselves into home cafés.

You will have the opportunity to taste local food and drinks, enjoy the unique atmosphere and the offered cultural programme.

It is the right time to tell all potential visitors of the Home Café Day in Ropaži and Salaspils Municipalities what to expect in during this day and project, briefly and concisely outlining the special features of each home café in order to prepare their taste buds for this taste and entertainment experience.

 

8 HOME CAFÉS WILL REPRESENT ROPAŽI MUNICIPALITY

We would like to introduce you with Mežmalas restaurant “Madzes garšu maģija” in Skujnieki, Augšciems, Ropaži Municipality, which has been taking part in our Home Café Days since the very beginning.

About their home café, the owners say – “When a chef with exquisite taste and a woman who makes earthenware come together in the same farmhouse, it’s a real treat for both the eyes and the stomach – this is how a restaurant on the edge of a forest with black ceramic dishes and seasonal flavours from local products come to existence.” This is what we wish all the guests of the “Madzes garšu maģija” to experience!         

The home café “Uguns virtuve” at Jaunsišu iela 20, in Dzidriņas, Stopiņu parish, Ropažu Municipality will offer dishes cooked over the fire. In addition to the delicious dishes, a themed activity will be organised – a napkin folding masterclass. You are kindly welcome!

 

“Gandrīz Lauki” home café, at Lapu iela 1, Podkāju Village, Ropažu Municipality, will invite you to enjoy food through an adventure that will trigger all your senses, not just your taste buds! At “Gandrīz Lauki” you will be able to experience the nature – listening, watching, eating, drinking and feeling everything it has to offer.

 

Just as simple and inviting – a cosy atmosphere and simply delicious food – this is our family recipe for the final Saturday of summer. The home café “Loku 5” will welcome you at Loku iela 5, Dzidriņas, Stopiņu Parish, Ropažu Municipality. 

 

The home café “RA enerģija” in “Vecmauriņi”, Kangari, Ropažu Municipality, will welcome you purposefully. The owners aim to promote healthy, low-carb, sugar-free food by preparing favourite dishes with added fibre, protein and fatty acids. “Ra Energy” will be the place to experience everything you need to eat healthy, reduce your sugar or carbohydrate intake by following one of the “Keto” or “lowcarb” diet plans, because eating healthy is definitely not complicated. The hosts encourage people to visit them, enjoy the food, the outdoor activities and at the same time get energy from the sun.

 

Someone who has visited the Ropaži and Salaspils Home Café Days in previous years may remember a café offering pizza cooked in an oven over an open fire and other delicacies – “Mimīša picas un citi gardumi” at Strūgas, in Zaķumuiža, Ropaži Municipality. This year, Mimīša picas will invite guests and gourmets to visit and feast at its welcoming yard.

 

A home café called “Garšas pietura” sounds promising. Therefore, all visitors are kindly welcome and invited to this home café at 25 Ādažu iela, in Bukulti, Ropažu Municipality, where an enterprising family will allow the guests to have pleasant time at “Garšas pietura”, whose owners will for the first time this year take on the positive challenge of this project.

 

Those who are not afraid of hobgoblins, witches and mystical adventures will be welcomed at the home café “Pie Berģu raganas” at Kārļa Egles iela 3, Garkalnes Parish, Ropažu Municipality. As with a real Witch, you will have the opportunity to taste snacks that will magically preserve a slim figure, a magic potion for absolute joy and happiness. We can whisper one more secret – by entering the house and turning 3 times around yourself, any wish will come true. We look forward to your visit!

 

SALASPILS MUNICIPALITY WILL BE REPRESENTED BY 5 HOME CAFÉS

The home café “Doles cienasts” located at “Ziediņi” on the island Doles Sala of Salaspils Municipality has participated in the project from the very beginning and continues to invite its visitors to the picturesque island Doles Sala, where in its peaceful atmosphere they will enjoy traditional dishes made from the freshest local products.

The home café “Zirņi” in Salaspils, at Miera iela 1, is a newcomer to the project. For the first time, the National Botanical Garden – the green oasis and ever-beating green heart of our own Municipality – has decided to join the project and become a home café for a day, putting a thousand-breed crop – peas – on the big table, before asking the café visitors a rhetorical question – will the pea soup from the botanical garden taste better if we sprinkle it with a pinch of stories about our ancestral heritage?

If we could each find just one crop in our family, how rich we would be!?!

 

One of the most visited home cafés in previous years, the family-friendly berry garden “Salaspils Mellenes” at Priežavotu aleja 58, Bajāri, Salaspils Municipality, will again offer the blueberries on plates and in their garden. The Home Café Day programme will offer you to pick your own blueberries, buy blueberries and plants, enjoy a blueberry garden tour, but above all it will be a blueberry menu with Solyanka soup from a big pot, as well as pizzas made by the virtuoso 10-year-old pizza master Renārs.

 

A newcomer to the home cafés of Salaspils Municipality is the home café “Grunduļi”, at Kalēju iela 5, Jaunsaurieši, Salaspils Municipality. Here 13-year-old Matīss will prepare and serve the meals he usually serves to his family and visitors. Just 5 km from the town of Salaspils, visitors are invited to the home that has carried the Grunduļi name since 1934. Fish will not be on the menu this year, but guests will certainly be treated to a second course, pancakes and a sweet dish, as well as homemade drinks. Some of the ingredients for the dishes Matīss grows in his herb garden You are welcome and you will be treated!

 

Ilze Bērziņa, the owner of the wonderful and unique wooden dome building – the artistic guest house “Ārpus Laika”, has also decided to join the home café event at her place in Kairos, Salaspils municipality. 

 

Here you will definitely be able to enjoy, taste and be surprised by exquisite, locally grown and prepared delicacies, feeling the special artistic aura, opening all your senses to enjoy food and the presence of nature, celebrating life in a lazy and beautiful way.
